Stay updated with the latest comments and experiences from Rotterdam International Secondary School: 08 Feb, 2020 Health insurance and medical benefits. Describe your experiences using these benefits and going to the local hospitals.: You pay like everyone else in the country. I pay about 160 Euro for a medium quality insurance that includes dental. First 300 Euro are out of pocket. The Dutch medical system is slow and inefficient unless you are really dying. I have been waiting to send my son to a pediatric therapist for 18months by now. In the mean time I pay to Skype with one back in our home country. If you are used to annual wellness check up, this is not happening. Dental cleaning, 10 minutes at most every 6 months. The dentist looked at my teeth and told me that she thought it was all good. I insisted on taking an X ray. She looked at my x rays and said: Actually, you need 2 fillings! This is a story with EVERY medical practitioner. You have to be aggressive and know what to ask for yourself because no one cares enough to be pro-active or even minimally active in the health profession. On a good side when I finally saw an adult therapist to help me cope with stress she was really good and could speak excellent English..
