Latest comment: 16 Apr, 2020 Information on trailing spouses. Can they work under spousal visa (also availability of work) or is it possible to live only on one salary?: Austria has a minimum salary amount to meet in order to sponsor a spouse or visa for children. Since I didn\'t earn the minimum for a family, I could not secure a visa for my family and ultimately had to leave the country. Living on one salary would be impossible unless the spouse was able to secure work. The spouse visa requires one to pass a German test. Classes are required and expensive. Working in Austria would require a fluency in German.
