The founders were the <a title=\"Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lutheran_Church-Missouri_Synod\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod<\/a>, the Hong Kong government and the American business community in Hong Kong. On 14 September 1967, HKIS opened the doors to a new campus in <a title=\"Repulse Bay\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Repulse_Bay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Repulse Bay<\/a> and housed 630 multi-national students. HKIS continued to expand over time, which led to the creation of a second building in Repulse Bay, and finally an additional campus in Tai Tam. Lower Primary and Upper Primary remain in Repulse Bay while Middle School and High School are in Tai Tam. An independent, nonprofit school, ASD was founded in 1966 to serve the needs of North American families and other expatriate populations in Dubai. It was the first American curriculum school established in Dubai and is still the only nonprofit American school located in the emirate. ASD follows an American curriculum and offers pre-K (K1) through grade 12 instruction. Gottfried und Marianne Bolleter were significantly involved in the setup of the school.\u00a0 The school\u2019s name remembers the Swiss missionary Friedrich August Ramseyer, who was engaged in business here in the \u201egold coast\u201c from 1864 until 1910. His first job was controller of construction sites in Accra (back then Christianbourg). Out of consideration for the health of his wife he was transferred after three years. The school started out very modestly. However, two years later the school was moved into a new building which is the one still being used today at Ring Road Central, right in the heart of Accra.
