As soon as you step out into the outside world in whatever country, you can be faced with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>street signs and scripts you cannot read (e.g. in Asia, Middle East etc.)<\/li>\n<li>a language you do not understand<\/li>\n<li>how to get the simplest things done (fix a tap leak, AC problem)<\/li>\n<li>who to ask for help<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is similar to a new born chick who has just left the nest \u2013 since you lack confidence in your new surroundings you start out by going on small excursions, but then as you get more confident you go on further trips away from \u2018the nest\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is true I suppose that teachers prefer to have \u201ccontrol\u201d in their classrooms.\u00a0 How ironic then that international school teachers put themselves in a situation where they for sure don\u2019t have control.\u00a0 Living in another country is certainly you letting go of the control and safety of your home country and culture, or at least a familiar place to you.\u00a0 But that is what makes this career choice really exciting; you never know what to expect and what you will experience next.\u00a0 How frustrating though to not be able to read street and road signs, we can all relate to that.\u00a0 Additionally, not being able to understand the local language really makes you use all your other senses more in how to interpret body language and to gather meaning from body positioning, gestures and context.\u00a0 At this point native-English international school teachers are so used to being on a train or plane where everyone around them is speaking a different language than themselves that it is strange now (and quite over-stimulating) to be on a plane in the United States (for example) where they understand all the many conversations going on around their seat.\u00a0 We get very used to \u201ctuning\u201d out what is going on around us while living abroad, mostly because we just don\u2019t understand what is being said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=3ce778129346ad12b7b0d02fb&amp;id=4118546025&amp;e=b128daf054\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/3ce778129346ad12b7b0d02fb\/images\/DSC_9294.jpg?resize=250%2C155\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"155\" align=\"none\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This past month <a href=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=3ce778129346ad12b7b0d02fb&amp;id=50807590dc&amp;e=b128daf054\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International School Community<\/a> we had over 100 new members sign up!\u00a0 If this rate keeps up, we might have over 1000 members by the end of October!\u00a0 More members means more people that you can network with when you are job hunting or that you can ask questions to about a specific international school in which you are interested in working.\u00a0 Now, ISCommunity members currently work at or have worked at over 160 different international schools in over 53 countries!<\/p>\n<p>From the staff at International School Community.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=3ce778129346ad12b7b0d02fb&amp;id=414825730a&amp;e=b128daf054\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"logo final small\" src=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/02\/logo-final-small1.jpg?w=115&#038;h=62&#038;fit=115%2C62&#038;resize=115%2C62\" alt=\"\" width=\"115\" height=\"62\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Recently updated schools with new comments and information:<\/h3>\n<div><strong>\u00b7 <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=3ce778129346ad12b7b0d02fb&amp;id=22193abb73&amp;e=b128daf054\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>04 May<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Copenhagen International School\u00a0(4 new comments)<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Copenhagen, Denmark<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cThe surrounding area is a bit posh.
