The journey to work is indeed an important one. \u00a0The journey though is not so clear for international school teachers when they are looking for jobs at schools in\u00a0cities\/countries to which they have never been. \u00a0So let’s share what we know!<\/p>\n

One of our members, who works at the\u00a0Hong Kong International School<\/a>\u00a0(Hong Kong, China)<\/span>\u00a0described her\u00a0way to work as follows:<\/p>\n

Leaving\u00a0my\u00a0apartment (which is very downtown near to the Causeway Bay MTR stop), I need to take an elevator down to the ground floor. \u00a0Many people live above the\u00a020th floor in the apartment buildings here. They are so tall! \u00a0Luckily, in my building, there is an express elevator that skips a lot of the lower-numbered floors so I can get to the ground level faster.<\/p>\n

I\u00a0get\u00a0on\u00a0the\u00a0MTR\u00a0Island\u00a0line\u00a0and\u00a0go\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0end\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0line\u00a0which\u00a0is\u00a0Chai\u00a0Wan. The journey can take around 15 minutes or so. There are definitely may other people on the metro, all with heads down, of course, looking at their smart phones.<\/p>\n

\n<\/a><\/p>\n

Once I get to Chai Wan, then I hop on a small bus.\u00a0From\u00a0there\u00a0it\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0quick\u00a0transfer\u00a0down\u00a0the\u00a0escalator\u00a0to\u00a0Bus\u00a016.\u00a0It is on\u00a0its\u00a0way\u00a0to\u00a0Stanley, but\u00a0makes\u00a0a\u00a0stop\u00a0at\u00a0Tai\u00a0Tam\u00a0Reservoir\u00a0Road\u00a0which\u00a0is\u00a0right\u00a0by Hong Kong International School<\/a>.\u00a0It\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0windy\u00a0ride, so everyone on the bus\u00a0has to\u00a0hold\u00a0on\u00a0to\u00a0the handle of the chair\u00a0in\u00a0front\u00a0of\u00a0us. This part of the journey takes around 10 minutes.<\/p>\n

From\u00a0there\u00a0I\u00a0just\u00a0walk down\u00a0the\u00a0hill\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0front\u00a0gate\u00a0of\u00a0HKIS. These pictures show me looking back though towards the bus stop, which is going UP the hill (the journey back to my apartment, after school is over-with for the day, definitely gets your heart pumping a bit…though it’s not that steep). On this road down to the school entrance, you can also see the apartments of many staff members. \u00a0They can just walk to work in a minute! \u00a0At the end of the road, you see the school…the huge school campus. But first, you need to scan yourself in through the security gates.<\/p>\n

The campus is super cool\u00a0with many nice views to be had. On a nice day, the trees, the mountains and the sea all look so beautiful!<\/p>\n
