{"id":412,"date":"2011-05-28T21:30:23","date_gmt":"2011-05-28T21:30:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.com\/blog\/?p=412"},"modified":"2012-02-26T21:30:50","modified_gmt":"2012-02-26T21:30:50","slug":"highlighted-article-destinations-and-dispositions-ikea-dependence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.com\/blog\/highlighted-article-destinations-and-dispositions-ikea-dependence\/","title":{"rendered":"Highlighted article: Destinations and Dispositions (IKEA dependence)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What an interesting <a href=\"http:\/\/pairadimes.davidtruss.com\/destinations-and%C2%A0dispositions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article<\/a> by David Truss.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d like to talk about IKEA for a moment.\u00a0 IKEA is indeed the best friend of international school teachers.\u00a0 What a great friend too because it travels with you where ever to go to in the world.\u00a0 Within the first 2-3 weeks of moving to a new country, each and every time I find myself at IKEA buying new furniture (sometimes even buying the same furniture that I purchase at my previous placement!).\u00a0 I never used to buy so much IKEA stuff when I lived in my home country.<\/p>\n<p>What draws me back each time?\u00a0 It is common knowledge that a trip to IKEA causes your \u201cinner-craziness\u201d to come out in full force.\u00a0 Navigating the maze of the store to get to the checkout lines, sometimes I need a straight jacket!\u00a0 Now try doing that same journey in another country\u2019s IKEA in Spain, China, etc\u2026MADDENING! Yet, I\u2019m still drawn to its \u201ccheap\u201d and \u201caffordable\u201d furniture and furnishings.<\/p>\n<p>But like all good friends, you go through ups and downs in your relationship.\u00a0 I always forgive IKEA and come back to him\/her.\u00a0 I always say to my best friends that \u201cI will be very sad at your funeral.\u201d\u00a0 After looking at IKEA furniture like \u201cJeff\u201d the trusty, cheap chair for years and years, of course, I will be sad at Jeff\u2019s funeral when it breaks (true story).\u00a0 Likewise, Jeff will be sad when I sell it away to somebody on in the internet or leave it with another friend when I move to a new country and can\u2019t take it with me.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe it is time that I finally say goodbye to IKEA for good.\u00a0 But, IKEA seems to not accept when I say \u201cno\u201d to him\/her!\u00a0\u00a0 IKEA responds \u201cTake me back! I love you!\u00a0 You know you can\u2019t live without me!\u201d\u00a0 And every time IKEA wins me back, every time.<\/p>\n<p>IKEA.\u00a0 Thank goodness for you!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What an interesting article by David Truss.
