{"id":288,"date":"2011-10-01T19:50:32","date_gmt":"2011-10-01T19:50:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.com\/blog\/?p=288"},"modified":"2012-02-26T19:51:07","modified_gmt":"2012-02-26T19:51:07","slug":"great-resource-u-s-dept-of-states-information-on-teaching-overseas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.com\/blog\/great-resource-u-s-dept-of-states-information-on-teaching-overseas\/","title":{"rendered":"Great resource \u2013 U.S. Dept. of State\u2019s information on Teaching Overseas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thank goodness for the U.S. Department of State!\u00a0 They seem to be keeping track of many international schools actually and helping out international school teachers at the same time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/screen-shot-2011-10-01-at-4-40-18-pm.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Screen shot 2011-10-01 at 4.40.18 PM\" src=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/screen-shot-2011-10-01-at-4-40-18-pm.png?w=600&#038;h=102&#038;fit=600%2C102&#038;resize=600%2C102\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"102\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One way they are helping is by offering the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.gov\/m\/dghr\/flo\/c22005.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FAST TRAIN (The Foreign Affairs Spouses Teacher Training Program)<\/a>\u201d programme to teachers wanting to get another license or add-on certificates to their already existing licensure. This programme started in 1990 and holds classes at George Mason University.\u00a0 I personally know some international school teachers that took classes here and it worked well for them.<\/p>\n<p>This webpage also highlighted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tieonline.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TIE online<\/a> (The International Educator) as the \u201cprivate non-profit organization dedicated to helping overseas international schools find qualified teaching staff and helping qualified teachers find positions at these overseas schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They also highlight a link to another website that apparently posted job vacancies for positions at international schools.\u00a0 After doing a <a href=\"http:\/\/chronicle.com\/jobSearch?contextId=61&amp;facetClear=1&amp;searchQueryString=international+school&amp;position=&amp;location=&amp;postalcode=&amp;within=10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">quick search<\/a>, no international schools came up.\u00a0 Maybe there will be a few vacancies come hiring season.<\/p>\n<p>There is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.gov\/m\/a\/os\/c1684.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">list of 197 international schools<\/a> that the U.S. Department provides assistance to. These school support an American-style education.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.gov\/m\/a\/os\/c1700.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Africa<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.gov\/m\/a\/os\/c1685.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">East Asia and Pacific<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.gov\/m\/a\/os\/c1699.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Europe<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.gov\/m\/a\/os\/c1701.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Near East and South Asia<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.gov\/m\/a\/os\/c1702.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Western Hemisphere<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then they have a list of international schools that may also be options for American families living abroad.\u00a0 This list includes U.S. and non-U.S. curriculum, religious, proprietary, and local public schools.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.gov\/m\/a\/os\/155546.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Africa<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.gov\/m\/a\/os\/155608.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">East Asia and Pacific<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.gov\/m\/a\/os\/155623.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Europe<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.gov\/m\/a\/os\/155859.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Near East and South Asia<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.gov\/m\/a\/os\/155934.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Western Hemisphere<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally, there is information about the <a href=\"http:\/\/exchanges.state.gov\/education\/fulbright\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fulbright scholarship<\/a> and information about serving in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peacecorps.gov\/index.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peace Corps<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thank goodness for the U.S. Department of State!\u00a0 They seem to be keeping track of many international schools actually and helping out international school teachers at the same time.
