{"id":237,"date":"2011-10-30T19:25:14","date_gmt":"2011-10-30T19:25:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.com\/blog\/?p=237"},"modified":"2014-04-21T14:22:24","modified_gmt":"2014-04-21T14:22:24","slug":"traveling-around-prague-czech-republic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.com\/blog\/traveling-around-prague-czech-republic\/","title":{"rendered":"Traveling Around: Prague, Czech Republic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Traveling Around: Prague, Czech Republic<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/dsc_7641.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"DSC_7641\" src=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/dsc_7641.jpg?w=600&#038;resize=216%2C131\" alt=\"\" width=\"216\" height=\"131\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/dsc_8014.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"DSC_8014\" src=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/dsc_8014.jpg?w=600&#038;resize=216%2C128\" alt=\"\" width=\"216\" height=\"128\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Can you relate?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Not realizing that the 2nd language on the local product packages was Slovak until the last day of the trip.<br \/>\n\u2022 Being swarmed and surrounded by hundreds of tourists.\u00a0 Thank goodness their numbers decreased after the weekend was over.<br \/>\n\u2022 Going to high-end restaurants for almost every meal, pretending that is how we normally go out to eat in our host country.<br \/>\n\u2022 Being actually quite impressed with the country\u2019s churches, both outside and inside.<br \/>\n\u2022 Going to Bohemia Bagel every morning for breakfast.\u00a0 Those bagels are pretty close to how they taste in NYC!<br \/>\n\u2022 Taking a short trip to Kutna Hora to see the \u201cBone Church.\u201d Then deciding to walk to the center of the town (about 2-3 kms) not realizing the local bus could have taken us there much faster!<br \/>\n\u2022 Exploring local grocery stores to check out their products, hoping they have some things that cost much cheaper than what is available in our host country.<br \/>\n\u2022 Having a sunny, beautiful day every day of the trip, but then finally getting a cloudy, rainy day on the last morning during the taxi ride back to the airport.<br \/>\n\u2022 Getting a Thai massage after a day of walking around because the price of an hour massage is about 1\/2 the price in our host country.<br \/>\n\u2022 Bring impressed by the buildings in Prague and how much of the design features being influenced by the Art Nouveau period.<br \/>\n\u2022 Seeing so many walking tour group everywhere.\u00a0 The tour guide holding their attention-getting flag and talking through their head microphone\/speaker.<br \/>\n\u2022 Feeling like we were truly in the Renaissance period seeing costumed trumpeters in a castle playing a tune at the top of every hour it seemed.<br \/>\n\u2022 Tried to go to the National Museum and the National Theatre to find they were both closed to the public.<br \/>\n\u2022 Finding a lady behind a little table selling opera tickets, taking a risk and buying tickets from her and then actually having a great time at the opera show.<br \/>\n\u2022 Bring very underwhelmed at the city\u2019s botanical garden.\u00a0 Maybe it was because we went there during the off-season.<br \/>\n\u2022 Seeing many marionettes and puppets around the city, including a Michael Jackson one resembling Pinocchio.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/dsc_8004.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"DSC_8004\" src=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/dsc_8004.jpg?w=600&#038;resize=130%2C181\" alt=\"\" width=\"130\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/dsc_7697.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"DSC_7697\" src=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/dsc_7697.jpg?w=600&#038;resize=216%2C143\" alt=\"\" width=\"216\" height=\"143\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you are on a trip right now, away from your host country, write to us at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:admin@internationalschoolcommunity.com\" target=\"_blank\">admin@internationalschoolcommunity.com<\/a>\u00a0with your &#8220;Can you relate?&#8221;
