{"id":148,"date":"2012-02-26T11:42:10","date_gmt":"2012-02-26T11:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.com\/blog\/?p=148"},"modified":"2012-10-14T20:23:38","modified_gmt":"2012-10-14T20:23:38","slug":"international-school-community-member-spotlight-10-beverley-bibby-seisen-international-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.com\/blog\/international-school-community-member-spotlight-10-beverley-bibby-seisen-international-school\/","title":{"rendered":"International School Community Member Spotlight #10: Beverley Bibby (Seisen International School)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every 1-2 months <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.internationalschoolcommunity.com\/home.php\" target=\"_blank\">International School Community<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0will highlight one of our members in our <a href=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.wordpress.com\/category\/member-spotlights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Member Spotlight<\/a> feature.\u00a0 This month we interviewed <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.internationalschoolcommunity.com\/my_account.php?id=856\" target=\"_blank\">Beverley Bibby<\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.internationalschoolcommunity.com\/my_account.php?id=856\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-width: 3px; border-color: black; border-style: solid;\" title=\"Screen shot 2012-02-26 at 12.12.26 PM\" src=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/02\/screen-shot-2012-02-26-at-12-12-26-pm.png?w=600&#038;resize=117%2C140\" alt=\"\" width=\"117\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tell us about your background.\u00a0 Where are you from?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Auckland, New Zealand<\/p>\n<p><strong>How did you get started in the international teaching community?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My husband died and I decided to register with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.searchassociates.com\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Search Associates<\/a> with another couple who I taught with in Auckland \u2013 we decided we wanted to teach abroad in an internationals school, so we registered with Search Associates.\u00a0 We attended a fair in Sydney \u2013 initially on registration we had all been approached by a Principal from a school in the Middle East but decided to attend the Fair before making a decision.\u00a0 At the Fair, they were offered (and accepted) jobs in the Middle East, and I returned to NZ .\u00a0 I declined the job in the Middle East and was later offered a position in Tokyo, which I accepted, to start in August 2008.<br \/>\n<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Which international schools have you worked at?\u00a0 Please share some aspects of the schools that made them unique and fun places in which to work.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I have only worked at the one international school \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.internationalschoolcommunity.com\/school_main.php?id=65\" target=\"_blank\">Seisen International School<\/a> from 2008.\u00a0 I am in my 4th year of teaching at Seisen.\u00a0 Seisen was my first experience in a PYP school.\u00a0 It was a new learning curve, but one which I was happy to engage in and has been a great experience.\u00a0 I love teaching the PYP programme and consider my years have been both personally enriching and intellectually and professionally very exciting.\u00a0 I love my profession and delight in seeing and sharing in my students learning.\u00a0 I see teaching as a holistic profession and never cease to be amazed with my students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Describe your latest cultural encounter in your current placement, one that put a smile on your face.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I recently traveled to Yudanaka, up north, to see the snow monkeys.\u00a0 The town was a winter wonderland:\u00a0 gigantic icicles that sparkled like jewels, snow drifts as pristine as one would imagine, powder snow that wafted into space when one took a handful and blew on it,\u00a0 and monkeys that romped in the snow, rolled up snow balls and threw them at each other and dive bombed their elders in the hot pool.\u00a0 Those in the pool wore faces of absolute contentment and relaxation, as the hot water warmed their bodies, and all this midst a constant fall of gentle snow flakes.\u00a0 From there to Zao, to freezing temperatures and white out.\u00a0 Huge trees covered in snow that had frozen to give them the look of \u2018snow monsters\u2019 \u2013 and all this in sub zero temperatures at the top of the mountain where one couldn\u2019t stay up there for too long coz of the sheer rawness and frigid temperatures.\u00a0 Nature in the raw!\u00a0 Magic!!
