{"id":1330,"date":"2012-08-07T11:40:49","date_gmt":"2012-08-07T11:40:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.com\/blog\/?p=1330"},"modified":"2025-03-01T02:42:43","modified_gmt":"2025-03-01T02:42:43","slug":"international-school-community-member-spotlight-15-tara-moore-an-international-teacher-currently-working-at-colegio-granadino","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.com\/blog\/international-school-community-member-spotlight-15-tara-moore-an-international-teacher-currently-working-at-colegio-granadino\/","title":{"rendered":"International School Community Member Spotlight #15: Tara Moore (An international teacher currently working at Colegio Granadino)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every 1-2 months <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.internationalschoolcommunity.com\/home.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International School Community<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0will highlight one of our members in our <a href=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.wordpress.com\/category\/category\/member-spotlights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Member Spotlight<\/a> feature.\u00a0 This month we interviewed <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.com\/my_account.php?id=1491\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tara Moore<\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tell us about your background.\u00a0 Where are you from?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My name is Tara Moore.\u00a0 I was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and for the last eleven years I lived in Ajax, Ontario, Canada.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How did you get started in the international teaching community?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I graduated from Teacher\u2019s College in 1995 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and there were no jobs for new teachers.\u00a0 I had already volunteered overseas at the Baha\u2019i World Centre in Israel for 18 months and spent 6 months volunteering in East Africa and the Baltics, so I thought that International teaching made perfect sense.\u00a0 I subscribed to The International Educator (TIE) and applied to several positions.\u00a0 Within 3 \u2013 4 months, The American School of Guatemala hired me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Which international schools have you worked at?\u00a0 Please share some aspects of the schools that made them unique and fun places in which to work.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I have worked at <a href=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.com\/school\/244\/American_School__Of_Guatemala_%28Colegio_Americano%29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The American School of Guatemala<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.com\/school\/294\/Colegio_Granadino_Manizales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colegio Granadino<\/a>.\u00a0 The American School of Guatemala was quite large and as I was teaching high school the students were fully bilingual.\u00a0 The English classes only had fifteen students so I found that it was much easier to give the students one on one attention and really get to know them.<\/p>\n<p>At <a href=\"http:\/\/internationalschoolcommunity.com\/school\/294\/Colegio_Granadino_Manizales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colegio Granadino<\/a> the staff and students are very laid back.
