Next click on the Make a Payment button to pay either with your PayPal account or without logging in to PayPal and just paying with your credit card.
Once you have premium membership access, please take this time to submit some comments on the schools you know about on our website. For every 10 comments you submit, your account will automatically be updated with one free month of premium membership. There is no limit, too. International School Community’s website launched back in February 2011. When our first newsletter came out in May 2011, we only had 49 members! On average, we have been getting over 300-400 people signing up to become new members each month. We hope this trend continues! The more members we have, the more people you have to network with.
International School Community’s goal is to be the largest online community for international schools educators. Our website provides a useful, informative and celebratory environment for networking with other international school teachers and learning about different international schools around the world.
We created a website that would highlight the ins and outs of working at international schools (the benefits, the school itself, the city and travel information, etc.).
Another major goal of this website is to provide experienced teachers the platform to share what they know so that prospective and seasoned international school teachers can make more informed decisions as they venture out to a new international school. Making connections and gathering information about international schools in our community has never been easier! Whether you are looking to make new friends, network with other international school teachers or learn more about the wonderful world of teaching at international schools, International School Community is the place to be.
We want members to provide real information that is specific; information that is related to all the different topics we need to know about before signing a contract. International School Community offers up-to-date information in a highly organized, easy-to-use manner.
We also offer a vast amount of information and links related to the world of teaching at international schools and education in general via our blog.
You can search our vast collection of international school profile pages to find that specific international school you want to know about. You can also search our member profiles and be able to find a contact to send a private message to so that you can get firsthand information about a school that member has worked at.
While the focus of the site is to serve the international school teaching community by providing real and useful information about international schools, we have specifically organized our website to promote our members to leave comments and information that are useful for everyone. Enjoy being an active member of our website!

New features on International School Community #3: Members List page and School profile page

International School Community’s goal is to have a website where our members can find international school teachers in which to easily contact and network. Thus we are always working on improving the organization of our website and its features to better serve our members.
We have updated our Members List page to include a sorting feature. Now visitors and members are able to sort our 324 (03 March, 2012) members more effectively now. It is now possible to sort the list by Newest First, First Name, Last Name, Current School and By Location (also being able to sort these lists by Descending or Ascending order). Go ahead and try it out and start contacting our members and networking today. Who knows who you might find?!
We have also just completed two more updates to the school profile pages. Now there is a Youtube video that can be found sometimes on a school’s profile page. If there is one available, then it will show up under the map features.
The video shown will be related to the school, typically a review or overview of the school from the school itself.
The other update on the school profile page is the school’s Facebook feature. If the school has a Facebook page that they update with the news from their school, it will now show up on the school’s profile page on our website. The feature can be found under the Members of this School feature.
We now have 1126 (3 March, 2012) international school profile pages on our website. Sign-on to our website and check out the new video and facebook updates on these schools!
There are many more improvements to come so stay tuned!

International School Community Member Spotlight #6: Taylor Smith

Each month International School Community will highlight one of our members. This month we interviewed Taylor Smith:
Tell us about your background. Where are you from?
I am from Edinburgh, Scotland and am extremely proud of my roots. A formal international swimmer, I travelled to many countries throughout the world as part of various swim teams. However when I retired from swimming in 2006, I realised that I had been to lots of countries but in fact had never seen much more than the airport, hotel and swimming pool. So I embarked on a career in Physical Education teaching with the dream of teaching abroad.
Which international schools have you worked at? Please share some aspects of the schools that made them unique and fun places in which to work.
I worked at Shanghai Rego International School and have recently started at Garden International School in Kuala Lumpur. Both schools are very different, mainly due to the size. Rego was a small school and had an intimate feel, whereas Garden has a huge number of students, which creates an incredible atmosphere. The bulk of my teaching thus far however, has been in China, and Rego school really did feel like (excuse the awful cliché) “a family”. Teachers had an enormous amount of freedom to explore new and creative ideas and they were well supported by parents and students. There was definitely never a feeling of having to navigate the red tape like non-international schools. In many ways it was a development curve that I honestly believe, I would not have experienced anywhere else.
Describe your latest cultural encounter in your current placement, one that put a smile on your face.
Moving to Kuala Lumpur from China brings many advantages. Things are just a little bit more like home here I guess. So the biggest smile on my face came when I was told I could take a loan to buy a car and it could be all done by the bank. I was not forced to pay thousands of pounds in cash. That is always a nice feeling.
What are some important things that you look for when you are searching for a new position at an international school?
I look for standard of living on the home front. I think this is the most important thing to consider when living abroad. Also travel opportunity is very important, as being away from friends and family can be a strain. Therefore it is always nice to know that it is easy to go home when you need to, and family are easily able to visit.
In exactly 5 words, how would you describe the international school teaching experience?
Eye opening, cultural, well paid, opportunity, life changing. (5 statements so not exactly 5 words sorry! I am a PE teacher after all).

Welcome!!
We are delighted to announce the official launch of International School Community. The premier online community for international school educators!
International School Community started as a crazy idea during the summer of 2010. Our dream was to provide a platform to network and share real information about what it is like working in international schools around the world. After much discussion and hard work involving many people in the international teaching community, this website finally became a reality in January 2011.
We would like to thank everyone who had a part in the creation of this website. We could not have done it without you!
